2008 - 2009 Theme:    "Wow..."

The Reflections Program is an annual arts recognition and achievement program run through the National PTA.  The goal is to encourage participation by every student in the art areas of literature, visual arts, photography, dance choreography, film/video production & musical composition.  The winners from each division at Sego Lily will have the opportunity to have their entries forwarded to the Council level, Region level, and maybe even the State, with the possibility of competing on a National Level.

Students are encouraged to submit original works of art related to the program theme in one of the following six categories:

  • Literature - any type of writing.  Fiction or non-fiction in prose, poetry or drama.  Not to exceed 2,000 words.
  • Photography - If it's original and done with a camera, it's photography.  Includes digital and prints, and various manipulations with a camera and/or software. A single print or collage, not to exceed 11 x 14 inches (including mat).
  • Musical Composition - musical composition entry for voice, instruments, or a combination, not to exceed five minutes.
  • Visual Arts - Prints, drawings, painting, collage or computer generated.  Must be flat and not more than 3/8 thick and not to exceed 24 x 30 inches (including mat).
  • Dance/Choreography - original choreographed dance composition works recorded on VHS or DVD, not to exceed five minutes.
  • Film/Video Production - original works of fiction or nonfiction relating to theme, with or without sound, not to exceed five minutes.

All entries are judged on artistic merit, creativity, and interpretation of the theme. Students are critiqued against other students in the same grade/division and all Middletown participants get invited to a reception held in their honor at the end of the competition.  First place winners go on to the state competition and then from there, all first place winners go on to the national level.
